Welcome Invitation!

Welcome to NLPJC!

If you are searching for new ways to explore and experience Judaism that is meaningful to you, within Inner North London, we may well be the community for you.

We invite you to explore our web-site. We are friendly, experimental and build on Jewish tradition, and we are finding new ways of creating a community that meets the needs of a very diverse range of men and women of all ages and backgrounds. Have a read of Who We Are. Whether you are Jewish by birth, choice or just curious we encourage you to find out more about us.

Our calendar of events includes social, educational and spiritual activities. Different members are developing differing interests.

Rabbi Shulamit conducts services in English and Hebrew and provides commentaries and page guidance in English - you'll be able to follow the entire service. We also offer a pre-Service Torah and Talmud study group, a cheder/religion school and a creche.

What's Happening? What's New?
All events unless otherwise stated take place
at St. Mary's Community Rooms,
adjacent to St. Mary's Church
Spensley Walk, Stoke Newington Church Street, London N16

How to get there: cars, trains, buses, bicycles, even walking.

Next Erev Shabbat Service: Friday 28th November, 7.15pm
We will be addressed by a speaker from the Israeli village which has two names: Wahat-al-Salam and Neve Shalom. Both names, the former is Arabic and the latter is Hebrew, have the same meaning, i.e. Oasis of Peace.

Wahat al-Salam / Neve Shalom (WAS-NS) is a village between Jerusalem and Tel-Aviv-Jaffa, jointly established by Jewish and Palestinian Arab citizens of Israel, that is engaged in educational work for peace, equality and understanding between the two peoples. The community is not affiliated with any political party or movement.

Wahat al-Salam / Neve Shalom’s educational system was the first Jewish-Palestinian bilingual children’s educational program in the country, and begins in the nursery and kindergarten. The Jewish and Palestinian teachers each speak exclusively in their own languages to all of the children. From an early age, the children begin to develop an awareness of their identity, culture and traditions. There is an atmosphere of openness and tolerance that encourages the children to understand, accept and appreciate each other. In recent years we have been encouraged to see the development of further bilingual schools in Israel inspired by our early efforts. www.nswas.org/

Please bring vegetarian food to share. No charge, but donations to cover our costs are welcome.

Next Shabbat Service
and the barmitzvah of Joshua Joseph which we will celebrate at Southgate Progressive Synagogue
Saturday 6th December

Mitzvah Day Sunday 16th November

On Mitzvah Day everyone can make their mark on the world. On Mitzvah Day, we ask for time, not money.

Mitzvah Day was founded in 2005 in the UK with founding partner, the JCC for London, based on Big Sunday in Los Angeles. Now an independent charity, Mitzvah Day UK encourages the practice of tzedek (righteousness), tikkun olam (repairing the world) and gemilut chasadim (acts of loving kindness). www.mitzvahday.org.uk

At NLPJC we have chosen to support the Praxis Supermarket voucher exchange scheme for destitute asylum seekers, and ask you all to join us in this support.

The way it works is..... you buy supermarket vouchers (Asda, Tesco or Sainsbury’s) through Praxis, so enabling the asylum seekers to receive the cash you’ve paid instead of the supermarket vouchers they would normally be given. They are then free to shop at their local markets, where food from different cultures is available and often cheaper than elsewhere, and you are free to spend your vouchers at your supermarkets, so it doesn’t actually cost you anything more than you would have spent anyway.

You can do this as a one-off, occasionally or can set up a regular standing order. Please see the linked information ..
• Praxis Voucher Exchange Information Sheet (.pdf)
• Praxis Standing Order Form (.doc)
or go to www.praxis.org.uk to register.

Thank you.
